It’s out with the old, and in with the new!

New operating room lights, that is!  Our hospital has purchased new LED lights for the operating room.  The lights are a long life, no maintenance, and energy efficient.  They were installed Monday afternoon, and the first surgery was performed under the new lights at 5:00 p.m. that same day.   Our operating room is vitally important to our hospital, with over a thousand surgeries being performed every year.  Many thanks go out to our donors for making this purchase a reality.  Stay tuned for additional news to see how your tax dollars are being used to enhance our hospital.

May 9th, 2017 Governor Deal signs SB180 revision to the Rural Tax Credit, now 90%

Rural Hospital Tax Credit Becomes Law

ATLANTA (May 9, 2017) | On Monday, Governor Nathan Deal signed Senate Bill 180 into law which will increase the cap and credit amount for donations made to rural hospitals. Senator Dean Burke (R – Bainbridge) sponsored SB 180 to continue Georgia’s efforts to ensure rural hospitals around the state receive monetary assistance.

“Last year, the Georgia General Assembly created a new tax credit that would equal to 70 percent of the amount donated to a rural hospital,” said Sen Burke. “After careful consideration and evaluation of the program, we wanted to see more participation. This legislation is intended to spike participation and make the donation process as easy as possible. Many rural hospitals in Georgia are in crisis and are struggling to keep their doors open. We must do all we can to recognize that their need is real and to offer any assistance possible.”
SB 180 amends the rural hospital donation tax credit by doubling the cap on tax credits that each individual or business could receive. Under SB 180, donors will receive a tax credit for 90 percent of their donation amount. SB 180 goes into effect on Monday, May 8, 2017.

March 17th, 2017  Irwin County Hospital is recognized in National Public Radio Marketplace advertisement

At the emergency room in Irwin County Hospital in Ocilla, Georgia, nurses treat a man for a possible stroke. The man is propped on a bed and hooked up to a machine that monitors his heart rate. He’s the only patient in the emergency room.
“Our ER is not very large. It’s only four exam rooms, a cardiac room and trauma room,” said Jason Baxley, a nurse at the hospital.
While it isn’t very large, Baxley said the ER stays busy treating patients from the community.
“We see on average, some days that are slow, seven to eight patients, to 12 or 13 patients per shift,” he said. “We treat anything from common colds to cardiac arrests.”
Irwin County, which the hospital serves, has a population of about 9,000 people. The 34-bed hospital has been struggling financially, said Clay Jones, regional director of operations for E.R. Hospitals, which manages the hospital.
